This is a codon decoder chart, it it used to translate the codons into the corresponding amino acid. For example if you have a codon of A U G, you look for A on the side that says "First Base in Codon". Next you look for U and the top where it says "Second Base in Codon" and find the box where A and U meet. Finally on the row where U and A meet you look for T where it says "Third Base in Codon" and you will see Ile. The you are finished.

Unit Summary
In this chapter, three main topics discussed were DNA and RNA, protein synthesis, and genetic engineering. There are many differences between DNA and RNA including the purpose, the types, and the structure. DNA's purpose is to hold and contain genetic information, while RNA's purpose is to make protein. DNA and RNA have different types, like RNA has 3 types, they are messenger RNA (mRNA), ribosomal RNA (rRNA), and transfer RNA (tRNA). mRNA is a copied strand of DNA using RNA base pairs that has instructions on how to make a particular protein, rRNA is a ribosome that makes protein, and tRNA brings amino acid needed to make protein. Lastly DNA and RNA have different structures, while DNA is a double helix, RNA is a single helix. DNA uses the bases Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine, and Thyme, while RNA uses Uracil. Another thing we talked about is protein synthesis, which is the making of protein. The first step is transcription which makes a copy of a gene using RNA base pairs and it occurs in the nucleus. Next is translation which translate the RNA code into amino and it occurs on a ribosome outside the nucleus. Lastly we discussed genetic engineering which includes manipulating DNA. Scientist can cut out a sequence of DNA and replace it with a wanted piece. It starts by cutting and pasting and the new DNA is called recombinant DNA. These are some of the topics we learned about.
In this chapter, my favorite topic was learning about the structure of DNA, because i am fasinated by how our genes are stored. I would Like to learn more about genetic engineering, because I want to learn the bad, good, and peoples arguments for their beliefs.
